MRI Flashcards
1
Q
What is MRI?
A
- magnetic resonance imaging
- a technique using strong magnetic fields and radiowave pulses to provide 3D images from living tissues
2
Q
Pros
A
- good imaging resolution from soft tissues
- multi parametric technique allowing differentiation of pathology from normal tissue and between pathologies
- good imaging from living tissues
3
Q
Cons
A
- relatively slow
- requires GA
- expensive
- as with all diagnostic imaging doesn’t provide a definitive histological diagnosis
- can be affected by metallic implants or identifichips
- generally limited to referral practices only
