Mr moss exam Flashcards
What are uncertainties
How certain your results are
What is a zero error
No error at zero
what is reading
there is no error at zero
What is measurement
both ends are to be considered in the uncertainties
What to do if given these percentage uncertainties AxB, A^2 and A^n
AxB - add the percentage uncertainties
A^2 - double the percentage uncertainties
A^n - multiply the percentage uncertainties
Percentage uncertainty equation
% Uncertainty = (Absolute Uncertainty / Reading Uncertainty) X 100
Specific charge equation
specific charge = Charge / mass
How does thee strong nuclear force keep the nuclues stable
It keeps the positively charged proton and negatively charged electron from repulsing and is much stronger than electromagnetic forces
What does the strong force do
Keeps the nucleus together and holds the nuclide together
What is the weak force
converts protons into neutrons or vice versa while at the same time emitting electrons or positrons and neutrinos from the nulceus
What is the speed of light equation
Speed of light = Frequency / Wavelength
What is energy equation including plancks constants
Energy = Plancks constant X Frequency Energy = Plancks constant X Speed of light / wavelength
Antiparticle properties
same mass but opposite charge to particle
unstable particle have the same lifetime
some neutral particles identical e.g photons
other neutral particles are not
What is annihilation
when a particle meets with its antiparticle they annihilate and produce two gamma rays
What is pair production
Only occurs if one photon has enough energy to produce the total rest mass of the two particles
