What is the routine for moving off in a vehicle ?

What does POM Stand for ?
Prepare, Observe and Move
What is included in the Preparation part of POM
1, Putting the clutch fully down
- Select gear 1
- set the gas by pressing the gas pedal until you reach just over 1,000 revs
- bring the clutch to the biting point
What is included in the Observation part of POM
Mirrors and blindspots. Move from left to right covering all mirrors. You must also assess if there is a need to used a signal when moving off.
What is included in the Move part of POM
Moving forward, to do so you must release the handbrake and SLOWLY bring the clutch up
How far should you park from a junction
10 metres
Where should you not park
near a bus stop, double yellow lines, zigzag markings and avoid blocking driveways/entrances. you can tell is it an entrances as the kerb is dropped
What does MSM stand for
Mirror Signal manœuvre
What mirrors should you check in MSM
The middle mirror and the one on the side nearest to the kerb for cyclists
What is the foot control for preparing to stop the car
release the gas, cover the brake.
What is the foot control for stopping the car
Clutch fully down and as brake is already covered so you apply little pressure to brake at the same time as putting clutch fully down
What should be done after the mirror check in MSM
Signal should be indicated to let others know what you intend to do
What should be done when car has stopped?
Handbreak then placing gear into neutral. Only after this is it allowed to remove feet from the clutch and brake.
