Moving Cargo in the cell Flashcards
What are the two types of motor proteins?
- actin based molecular motors (myosin family move along actin molecules)
- microtubule molecular motors
How many domains does myosin contain?
3
What is the difference between processive and non-processive motors
in non-processive motors the net movement of actin filament results from uncoordinated actin attachmpentand detachment of many myosin along the filament
in processive heads are working together which ensured that the cargo stays attached to the actin filament long enough to be transferred along it
How is non muscle myosin II regulated?
both motor activity and thick filament assembly can be regulated by the action of kinases-myosin light chain kinase
What is myosin important for in non-muscle cells?
cytokinesis
transport
cell locomotion
cytoplasmic streaming
What are the two types of kinesics?
cytosolic (membrane bound vesicles and organelles are transported by their own specific kinesis along well defined routes in the cytosol)
spindle (spindle assembly and chromosome segregation during cell division. Often kinesis related proteins)
Which end of the microtubule do conventional kinesins move towards?
postive
What are the two types of dyneins?
cytosolic-movement of vesicles and chromosomes
axonemal-beating of cilia and flagella
What end do dyneins move to of an MT?
negative end
What is the fastest motor protein?
Dynein
Are dyneins procressive or non-processive?
processive
