Avoid moving and handling activities if there is a risk of injury.

Assess moving and handling activities if they cannot be avoided.

Reduce
Reduce the risk of injury to employees as far as reasonably practicable.

Review risk assessments regularly.
What actions are required by the employer to promote a safer workplace?
Organisational policies and guidance
Specialist Roles (for example moving and handling advisors.)

Training and guidance for employees
Specialist equipment which make M&H tasks easier
Support services e.g. occupational health
Employee responsibilities
1)Follow Prescribed safe systems of work and training
2)Follow your organisation’s moving and handling policy.
3)Use equipment provided, following manufacturer’s guidance and your training. Don’t use it if you don’t know how to.
4)Do not misuse or interfere with equipment provided for your safety.
5)Don’t put yourself or others at risk with your actions or by NOT doing something you need to do. Report any concerns to your manager.
6)Check your equipment is safe to use before using it. Report any concerns and follow the advice given by your manager.
