Movements & Support Of Shoulder Joint Flashcards
What are the basic structures in the nervous system?
What are their function?
Central nervous system (CNS):
- brain (skull)
- spinal cord (vertebral column)
Peripheral nervous system (PNS):
- cranial nerves
- spinal nerves
C7, T13, L7, S3, Cd20 (Spinal Nerves)
- leave spinal cord
- pass through intervertebral foramen
- paired left and right
- branches - dorsal branches supply’s dorsal structures
Describe the origin and formation of the brachial plexus
C6, C7, C8, T1, T2 - form the brachial plexus (located in the axillary region)
- emerging nerves supply forelimb
- motor = efferent fibres - carry impulses from brain to structure e.g. muscle
- sensory = afferent fibres - carry impulses from structure to brain
- spinal reflexes = mixed nerves - transit messages in both directions at once
Branchial plexus supplies ALL intrinsic muscles
Brachial plexus supplies some extrinsic muscles;
- latissimus dorsal (retractor)
- serratus ventralis (protractor & retractor)
- pectoralis (adductor)
