Flexion
A movement in a sagittal plane which takes a part of
the body forward from anatomical position.
Extension
A movement in the sagittal plane which takes a part of
the body backward from anatomical position.
Abduction
A movement in a frontal plane which takes a
part of the body away from the median plane.
Adduction
A movement in a frontal plane which takes a
part of the body toward the median plane.
Pronation
Rotation of the radius and ulna so that they cross each other
Supination
Rotation of the radius and ulna so that they uncross each other
Dorsiflexion
Movement when the angle between the top of the foot and the foreleg decreases
Plantar Flexion
Movement when the angle between the sole of the foot and the back of the foreleg decreases; pointing the foot
Protraction
Movement of the distal end of the clavicle forward, usually accompanied by scapular protraction
Retraction
Movement of the distal end of the clavicle backward, usually accompanied by scapular retraction
Palmar Flexion
Movement when the angle between the palm of the hand and the forearm decreases
