Flexion
Moving forward or decreasing the angle of 2 bones
Extension
Increasing the angle between 2 bones. Think of it as coming back from flexion
Hyperextension
Past anatomical position posterially
Abduction
Away from the body in the frontal plane like the first half of a jumping jack
Adduction
Back to the body in the frontal plane. Second half of jumping jack
Circumduction
Circular motion only possible with a ball and socket joint
Lateral rotation
Rotation away from the body
Medial rotation
Rotation in toward the body/centreline
Pronation
Elbow at 90 palms down
Supination
Elbows at 90 palms up like holding a bowl of soup
Eversion
Mostly in foot. Foot moves out and slightly in
Inversion
Foot moves inward
Dorsiflexion
Foot flexes up superiorly
Plantar flexion
Foot flexes down inferiorly
Opposition
Mostly a thumb movement. Thumb moves towards pinky. Important for grabbing
