Moving a body part AWAY from the midline
Adduction
moving a body apart toward the midline
Flexion
Decreasing the angle between 2 bones, or bending a body part
Extension
increasing the angle between 2 bones, or straightening a body part
Rotation
turning a body part around it own axis
Circumduction
moving in a circle at a joint, or moving 1 end of a body part in a circle while the other end remains stationary
Pronation
turning a body part downward
Supination
turning a body upward
Dorsiflexion
bending backward or bending the foot toward the knee
Plantarflexion

Contractibility
muscle fibers that are stimulated by nerves contract, or become shot and thick
Extensibility
the ability to be stretched
Elasticity
allows the muscle to return back to its original shape after it has contracted or stretched
Involuntary
function without concious
Voluntary

Eversion
turning a body part outward
Inversion

Hyperextension
excessive movement in a joint in one direction (straightening)

body part moves forwards (anterior)
Retraction
pulling a body part back (posterior)
External rotation
body part rotated away from midline on own axis
Internal rotation
body part rotated towards the midline on own axis
Depression
movement in inferior direction (down)
