Tendon
band of connective tissue that connects muscle to the bone.
Aponeurosis
a broad flat tendon connecting a muscle to bone or muscle to another muscle.
Origin
The point of attachment of a muscle that remains relatively fixed during contraction.
Insertion
the more moveable attachment sites of muscle.
Agonist
A contracting muscle that is resisted or counteracted by another muscle.
Antagonist
a muscle that opposes the action of another.
Synergist
a kind of muscle that performs, or helps perform, the same set of joint motion as the agonists.
Prime mover
main muscle that accomplishes movement.
Fixator
a muscle that acts as a stabilizer of one part of the body during movement of another part.
