when did they go?

Dangerous, harsh climate, bears, got introduced to fire arms and alcohol, lack of money, bad weather, not very nice views
Pull factors for travelling west
lots of land, gold, fur trade, resources-tobacco and whisky, milk and honey, wheat, sunshine, fruit grows, perfect for farming and friendly indians
What did they find?
found passes across the mountains
Why did they go west?
to explore, hunters, trappers, trading , allowed americans to settle
What experiences and impact did they have on the west?
they set trials for other people who may travel west after them
Where did they come from?
The East
Why were they called mountain men?
They spent there whole time in the mountains
Did they settle on the Plains?
no, they travelled across the plains
What happened at Rendez-Vous?
All mountain men gathered together to trade
relationship with the indians?
friendly indians came to Rendez-Vous to trade
indians helped them survive
however mountain men became dependant on outsiders
