EBs
End-binding proteins. These recognize a GTP-tubulin-related structural conformation enriched at the ends of dynamically growing microtubules and recruit proteins with either 1. A CAP-Gly domain or 2. A SxIP motif - to the microtubule plus end.
CLIPS
Cytoplasmic linker proteins. They have a CAP-Gly domain which binds to 1. the C-terminus of alpha-tubulin, 2. EBs - EB1 and EB3.
- CLIP-170
- CLIP-115
+TIPS (name 5 examples)
The name given to microtubule plus-end tracking proteins (in the paper).
- Proteins with CAP-Gly
- Proteins with SxIP
- EBs
- CLIPS
- Lis1
Lis1
Another +TIP, and a dynein regulator. 4 things to know about lis:
- Dynein regulator
- Associated with lissencephaly
- Associated with neuronal migration
- Associated with retrograde transport
Dynactin
Enhances dynein processivity, mediates cargo interactions, promotes efficiency of retrograde transport, necessary for transport initiation in Drosophila
What is the overall goal of this paper?
Investigate the role of dynamic microtubules and +TIPS in initiation of dynein-mediated retrograde axonal transport.
