Motor Control theory aspects Flashcards
What considerations should you take for the skill of the learner? Ref?
- consistency
- flexibility
- efficiency
(consider patient characteristics)
Muratori et al. (2013)
Describe Gentile’s (1998) 2 stage model?
- Getting idea of movmement
2. Diversification or fixation
What are regulatory and non-regulatory factors?
Regulatory = factors important for completing the task
Non regulatory = the opposite
What are organisation and complexity? REF?
complexity = s/e
organisation = how many parts and the extent to which the parts interact.
Naylor and Briggs 1963
What are the Schmidt (1975) statements on practice variability?
- practicing variations in movement is beneficial for the retention and transfer of a skill
- Practicing a variety of different ways to perform a skill allows the learner to apply different parameters to a movement skill and therefore develops their generalized motor program.
What does Gentile (2000) say baout variable practice?
Learners shouls experience a range of regulatory and non reugulatory context conditions however the learner must first establish an appropriate moving pattern
Which study supports the use of contextual interrference?
Wulf et al. (2011)
Is there a benefit to contextual interference in those with neurological impairments?
No syas Lin et al. (2008)
What is mental practice? REF?
Mental practice is the cognitive rehearsal and imagining of a motor action without the production of the overt movement. Magill. (2011)
Concurrent feedback beneficial?? REF?
Can hinder retention and transfer as patient becomes reliant on the feedback to accomplish the task. Winstein (1994)
Definition of plasticity? REF?
The capacity of the brain to modify its structure or function in response to learning or brain damage (Lebeer, 1998)
