Motor Control of Eye Movements Flashcards
what is conjugate eye movements?
eyes move in the same direction
what is a saccadic eye movement?
rapid movement: vision moves from target to target
what is smooth pursuit?
maintains image of moving target fixed on the retina (watching a bird as it fys past)
what is vergence?
focus shifts between near and far objects
(eyes move in opposite directions
what is conversance eye movement?
visual axis of eyes converge (near focus)(eyes look to nose)
what is divergence eye movement?
visual axis of eyes diverge (far focus) (eyes out lateral)
CN III innervates which eye muscles?
Medial rectus muscle
Inferior rectus muscle
Superior rectus muscle
Inferior oblique muscle
(levator palpebrae superioris m)
What is innervated by CN IV?
superior oblique
what does CN VI innervate?
lateral rectus m
if you ask patient to ook straight ahead and eye goes in and up what nerve may be damaged?
abducens (CN VI)
WHAT IS THE ACTION of superior oblique?
down and out
what is the action of inferior oblique?
up and out
when looking to the wight which part of the brain is acting?
left
when we want to move our eyes right what is the path of efferent?
info leaves the eft frontal eye field, decussates, goes to right PPRF and then to right abducens
for left eye must go to left PPRF in PONS then to left longitudinal fasciculus to oculomotor
where are the different gaze centers?
horizontal gaze center: PONS
Vertica and vergence: midbrain
