Motor Control by the CNS Flashcards
What is the rubrospinal system?
Motorcortex through red nucleus
feeds to the spinal CPGs
What is the cortical neurone
“Manager” of multiple spinal cords neurones
control of movements, not of individual muscles
Where is the corticospinal tracts
Come from the motor tracts
Cross over in the medulla oblongata
What is the basal ganglia
Groups of neurones where all motor fibres are passed between
Role of basal ganglia
Release and supression of movement
What is the putamen circuit
Loop from the cerebral cortex and back via the putamen - GP - subthalamic nucleii - SN, thalamus
What are problems with the putamen circuit
Athetosis- slow involuntary movement
Ballismus- ballistic movement
Chorea- dance like movements
What is the cuadate circuit?
Cognitive control of movement
What is the caudate circuit common to both?
Excitatory dopaminergic pathway from SN to straitum
