Motor Control Flashcards
When is the anterior cingulate used in motor control?
When movements require us to break well-learned habits or contravene our normal associations, when movements are novel, or when movements are less well rehearsed, the anterior cingulate is called into action.
What is the supplementary motor area (SMA)?
Transmits information about the motor program to other brain regions, eventually allowing activation of the specific muscles required to execute the program.
What are the three sub cortical regions involved in motor control?
Motor Tracts
Cerebellum
Basal Ganglia
What is a motor unit?
A motor neuron and the muscle fibres it innervates.
What is a neuromuscular junction?
The synapse between a neuron and a muscle fiber. It is larger and has a more specialized structure than a typical synapse.
What are motor tracts?
Pathways between the brain and muscles through which information is relayed to target muscles to be executed.
