Taylor’s Theory
Workers are motivated by money alone
He favoured division of labour
High Productivity = higher wages
Maslow’s Theory
Self Actualisation
Self-esteem
Social needs
Safety
Basic physical needs
Hertzberg’s two factor theory
Hygiene factors - good company policy, supervision, working conditions, pay, and relationships with fellow employees.
They don’t get motivated as such but if they aren’t good then workers will get dissatisfied
Mayo’s theory
Managers need to improve communication with workers and value their opinions
Managers must meet the social needs of the workers in order to improve motivation
Financial motivation
Piece work - worker is paid per unit produced
Commission- money paid to workers. A percentage of the final sale price of a product, often used in sales jobs (auction houses or shops)
