Motivation, Behavioural Needs and Adaptive Behaviour Flashcards
1
Q
What 2 characteristics of behaviour does motivation describe?
A
- action selection (initiation, switching)
- behavioural vigour (during; behaviour not binary)
2
Q
What determines levels of motivation to perform/vigour for behavioural sequences?
A
- internal factors - physiology, homeostasis
- external factors - temperature, light, conditioned cues
- these vary in an integrated way (hormones, circadian, seasonally)
3
Q
Why do behaviours stop or continue?
A
- negative consequences - external and internal - hysteresis
- motivational competition - behavioural switching (costs and benefits)
- positive feedback
