Motivation and Adherence Flashcards
What is effective goal setting?
- don’t set too many
- avoid negatives
- set short and long-term
- process and product goals
What are the 5 ways to effectively listen to a client
encouraging, paraphrasing (re-stating in a clear and concise way), questioning, reflecting (re-state main points), summarizing (summarize key points)
process goal vs. product goal
process- such as completing a # of workouts per week
product- amt of weight lost or weight lifted
What are the stages of motor learning?
- cognition
- associative
- autonomous
What is the health belief model?
based on perceived threat client feels regarding a health problem and the pros and cons of adopting a new behavior
- perceived seriousness
- perceived suseptibility
- cues to action
What is the Transtheoretical Change Model
(Stages of Change Model) 4 components: 1. stages of change 2. processes of change 3. self-efficacy 4. decisional balance
Describe the stages of change
Pre-contemplation- sedentary and unresponsive
Contemplation- still sedentary but considering activity as important
Preparation- some PA but inconsistent, ready to adopt and live active lifestyle
Action- regular PA for less than 6 months
Maintenance- regular PA for 6mo
Define Operant Conditioning
process by which behaviors are influenced by consequences
Define antecedent
stimuli that precedes a behavior, their affect on behavior is determined by stimulus control- setting an alarm to get ready to go to the gym
Define extinction
when a positive stimulus that follows a behavior is removed and the likelihood that the behavior will occur is decreased
Define shaping
refers to the process of using reinforcements to gradually shape a behavior (Ex: half lunge to a full lunge to a lunge w/ weight)
