Learn the different types of main motions.
Main Motion

Previous question
It may not interrupt a speaker,

A two-thirds vote is necessary,
It may be reconsidered before the affirmative vote it taken on the pending question or questions.
Is to terminate discussing on the motion, or motions, before the chapter and to secure am immediate vote.
Before alternative vote has been taken on the pending question or questions.
Refer to a committee
It may not interrupt a speaker,
A second is required,
It is debatable and amendable,
A majority vote in necessary,
It may be reconsidered before the committee takes up the question
Is to temporarily place the action in question in a committee.
Before any action is taken by the committee.
Amend
It may not interrupt a speaker,
A second is required,
It is debatable when the motion to which it applies is debatable,
Am amendment can be amended by an amendment of the second rank; an amendment of the second rank cannot be amended,
A majority vote is necessary,
It may be reconsidered
The purpose of amending is to modify the motion that is under consideration.
If applied to a debatable question.
Only first rank amendment.
Point of order

All nominees can be discussed,
Candidates are voted on in the order they were nominated,
A majority vote is required to elect.
Closing nominations:

It is amendable as to time only,
A two-thirds vote is required,
It cannot be reconsidered.
The purpose is to present to the chapter name of a candidate for a certain office or position.

Parliamentary inquiry

It can not be reconsidered
The purpose is to permit a ember to gain parliamentary information.
Withdraw/modify motion
It may interrupt a speaker,
It is undebatable and unamendable,
A majority vote is required,
Only negative vote can be reconsidered,
A motion cannot be withdrawn after voting has commenced.
The purpose is to permit the modification of withdrawal of a motion from consideration by the chapter.

Adjourn

It is undebatable and unamendable,
A majority vote is required,
It cannot be reconsidered,
It cannot be made while counting votes or verifying a vote unless the vote is by ballot.
The purpose is to terminate (close) the meeting.

The purpose is to again bring a question before the chapter for further consideration.
Discharge a committee
It may not interrupt a speaker,

It is amendable in special cases, such as time outcome.
A two-thirds vote is required, unless previous notice of the discharge was given;then a majority vote is required,
Only the negative vote can be reconsidered.
The purpose is to permit an assembly to again consider a question that was previously placed in a committee.
