Motion to Suppress
A motion to suppress evidence that has been unlawfully required (e.g. in violation of the Fourth Amendment right to search or seizure).
Motion in Limine
A motion to exclude evidence because it is inadmissible under the Rules of evidence.
Motion for Judgment for Acquittal
When the D asks the court to hold that the D must be acquitted.
When Is a Motion for Judgment for Acquittal Granted?: Rational Result Test
If evidence in the Ps case in chief (Ps opening to Ps resting) is so insufficient that guilt is not even a rational option among a range of options.
Standard of Proof for the Rational Result Test
Standard of proof is whether the evidence, viewed in light most favorable to the P, supports a rational finding that all of the elements of the offense have been established.
