Motion / Stability: Forces & Interactions Terms 1 Flashcards
This states that in an isolated system the total momentum of two or more bodies acting upon each other remains constant unless an external force is applied
Law of Conservation of Momentum
The conversion of one form of energy into another, or the movement of energy from one place to another.
Energy Transfer
The movement of energy between objects or regions
Transfer
An action that changes or maintains the motion of a body or object
Force
Forces of equal magnitude but are opposite in direction
Balanced Force
A force that opposes motion when the surface of a body comes into contact with that of another body.
Friction
The direction towards which the force is applied
Direction of Force
The force or action of one object hitting another
Impact
The vector sum of all the forces that act upon an object
Net Force
A property of matter by which it tries to maintain its state of rest or of uniform motion along a straight line
Inertia
A pair of forces that occur when two objects interact with each other
Action / Reaction
The force by which a planet or other body draws objects toward its center.
Gravity
The rate of change of velocity.
Acceleration
The force needed to accelerate a body weighing one kilogram by one meter per second.
Newton
A force that you generate when you push something in the opposite direction.
Thrust
