Motion P9 Flashcards
How to calculate the speed of an object?
v=s/t
distance divided time
How to calculate the distance of an object travelling?
s=v * t
speed multiply time
How to calculate the time of an object travelling?
t=s/v
distance divided by speed
What does v stand for and its unit?
speed (m/s)
What does s stand for and it’s units?
distance (m)
What does t stand for and the units?
time (seconds)
The steeper the gradient…
…the greater the speed.
The distance-time graph for any object is stationary(1)
moving at a constant speed(2):
Stationary = horizontal line.
Moving at constant speed = straight line that slopes upwards.
What does the gradient of a distance-time graph represent?
Speed
What is the speed of a runner who covers 400m in 50s?
8 m/s
Vector meaning?
A physical quantity that has a direction as well as a magnitude. Eg 20N to the left.
Define Scalar.
A physical quantity that has a magnitude only and does not have a direction. Eg 20N
What is the displacement of an object?
The distance travelled in a given direction.
Define velocity of an object.
Object’s speed in a given direction.
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is scalar and velocity is vector.
