Motion in a Plane/ Kinematics Flashcards
What are the types of motion ?
- Rectilinear motion
- Circulatory (point mass) or Rotatory motion (not point mass)
- Oscillatory or Vibratory motion
What is Rectilinear Motion ?
Motion in a straight line
What is Rectilinear Motion ?
Motion in a straight line
What is Circulatory or Rotatory motion ?
Circulatory (point mass) or Rotatory motion (not point mass) means circular motion
What is Oscillatory or Vibratory motion
To and Fro or Back and Forth motion
What is a point mass ?
During motion, in given time, if an object covers a distance much greater than its own size then its called a point mass
What is a Frame of Reference ?
The system of coordinates attached to an observer, so that the observer can describe distance, displacement, acceleration, etc. of a moving object
What is an inertial frame of reference ?
An inertial frame of reference is one in which newton’s first law of motion hold true
What is an non inertial frame of reference ?
An non inertial frame of reference is one in which newton’s first law of motion does not hold true
> Variable velocity or acceleration along a straight path
What is velocity ?
Ratio of displacement and time taken by object
v = s/t
> Vector quantity
What is uniform velocity ?
A body which covers equal displacement in equal interval of time is said to be having uniform velocity
What is variable velocity ?
if the speed changes with time or the direction changes with time or both change with time
What is uniform motion ?
> If velocity is uniform
> Resultant force is zero
What is average velocity ?
Ratio of total displacement by total time taken by the body is known as avverage velocity
> Avg speed >= Avg velocity (velocity can be negative)
What is instantaneous velocity ?
Velocity at a particular instant of time
v = ds/dt
