Motion, Force, Energy & Power Flashcards
Definition of Force & unit.
Force is that which changes or tries to change, the state of rest of a body or the uniform motion of that body.
Newton (N)
Definition of Mass & unit.
Defined as the quantity of matter contained within a body.
Kilogram (KG)
Definition of gravity & unit
All free falling objects fall with the same constant velocity directed to wards earths surface.
M/S squared
Definition of weight and unit
The force with which a body is attracted to the centre of earth
Newton’s (N)
What is a scalar quantity?
Is any quantity that expresses magnitude only.
What is a vector quantity?
That expresses both magnitude and direction
What is velocity?
The rate of change of distance with respect to time.
M/S
What is acceleration?
Rate of change of velocity in respect to time.
M/S squared
What is retardation?
Deceleration
What is density?
The amount of mass in respect to unit volume.
What is pressure?
The amount of force acting on a unit area.
What is Linear motion?
Is motion in a straight line
What are the 4 ways of describing rotary motion?
Rpm
Revs/second
Degrees/second
Radians/second
How do you convert RPM into revs/second?
Rpm
Divided by 60
How do you convert rpm into degrees/second?
Rpm x 360
Divide by 60
What is torque?
When a force acts at a distance from a point it is said to produce a turning effect about that point
What is energy?
Energy is the capacity of ability to do work.
Complete the sentence
“Energy cannot be created or destroyed……….”
But can only be changed in form”
What is power?
Power is defined as the rate of doing work.
