Motion Dynamics Lecture Flashcards
What are the 3 planes of motion?
Frontal/Coronal, Sagittal, and Transverse
What motion and axis is associated with the sagittal plane?
Horizontal axis and flexion/extension
What axis and motion is associated with the frontal/coronal plane?
Anterior/posterior axis and side-bending
What axis and motion is associated wit the transverse plane?
Vertical axis and rotation
What is coupled motion?
Consistent association of a motion along or about one axis, with another motion about or along a second axis.
The principle motion cannot be produced without the associated motion occurring as well.
Example: motion of the spine, which serves to protect the spinal cord while providing a basic support axis for the upper body
What is the functional unit of the spine?
2 vertebrae, their associated disc, neuromuscular and other soft tissues
What is linkage?
When you link multiple structures together, you will get increased ROM
Ex) Shoulder and spine or spine and hip/pelvis
In order to assess a specific joint, you must isolate it for accurate measurement and evaluation
