What 3 things are needed for 2 variables to be directly proportional?
- The line of best fit should go through the origin on a graph.
- Should be a straight line graph.
- Should go up in the same amounts each time e.g every 1 hour the car travels 30 miles.
How does the length of the pendulum affect the time taken for one swing?
The longer the string of the pendulum, the longer it takes to complete one oscillation (swing).
State some practical results for how the length of the pendulum affects the time taken for one swing.
Length of string = 0.1m
Time for one swing = 0.76s
OR
Length of string = 1m
Time for one swing = 1.978s
Why is the simple pendulum useful for time keeping?
Because it is isochronus (swings in the same time intervals).
ALSO a demonstration of Newton’s First Law!! (Because it is moving at a constant speed-isochronus-so the forces acting on it must be balanced)
What is the formula for constant speed?
Speed = distance ÷ time.
What is the formula for average speed?
Average speed = total distance ÷ time taken.
State the correct units for speed.
Km/h (kilometres per hour), m/h (miles per hour), m/s (metres per second).
Which goes on the x axis in a distance-time graph: distance or time?
- Time goes on the x axis.
- Distance goes on the y axis.
What does it mean if a distance time graph has a really steep line?
It is accelerating/going fast because there is less time taken compared to the amount of distance travelled.
