Motion And Forces Flashcards
What is speed
How fast you’re going it doesn’t matter about the direction
What is velocity
How fast you are going but with a direction the distance you go in a particular direction is the displacement
Speed=
Distance/time
What is acceleration
How quickly the velocity is changing
What is a vector
It has a magnitude and a direction
Acceleration =
Change in velocity/time taken
(V-U)=a X t
What does a distance time graph show
Gradient = speed Flat sections mean stop Downhill means going back to the start Curves represent acceleration or deceleration A steep curve means speeding up A levelling curve means slowing down
How to work out gradient
Gradient = vertical/horizontal
What does a velocity time graph show
Gradient = acceleration
Flat sections show a steady speed
The steeper the graph the bigger the acceleration
Up hill shows acceleration
Down hill shows deceleration
A curve means changing acceleration
The area of part of the graph shows the distance
What is weight
It is a force measured in newtons and caused by the pull of gravity
What is mass
It is the amount of stuff In an object the object will have the same mass anywhere in the universe
Weight=
Mass x gravitational field strength
W=m X g
What is terminal velocity
When falling objects set off there is much more downward force than upward but slowly the forces balance out and when the become balanced it is called terminal velocity
What is the action force
It is the force acting in something e.g. Pushing a trolley
What is the reaction force
The force of the second object pushing back e.g the trolley pushes back equally
