Motion And Forces Flashcards
A location to which another location is compared
Reference point
An object’s location
Position
A change of position over time.
Motion
A quantity that has both size and direction.
Vector
A measure of how fast something moves over a particular distance and time. It is distance divided by time.
Speed
A speed in a specific direction
Velocity
The rate at which the velocity of something changes overtime
Acceleration
A push or pull.
Force
The overall force acting on an object when all the forces acting on it are combined.
Net Force
A scientific law stating that objects at rest remain at rest, and objects in motion remain in motion unless stopped by an unbalanced force.
Newton’s first law
The resistance of an object to a change in the speed or the direction of its motion.
Inertia
A scientific law stating that the acceleration of an object increases with increased force and decreases with increased mass.
Newton’s second law
Any force that keeps an object moving in a circle.
Centripetal force
A scientific law stating that every time one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts a force that is equal in size and opposite in direction back on the first object.
Newton’s third law
