Motion And Forces Flashcards
A location to which another location is compared.
Reference Point
An objects location
Position
A change of position over time.
Motion
A measure of how fast something moves through a particular distance over a definite time period. Speed is a distance divided by time.
Speedy
A speed in a specific direction.
Velocity
A quantity that has both size and direction
Vector
The rate at which velocity changes over time
Acceleration
A push or pull; something that changes the motion of an object
Force
The overall force acting on an object when all of the forces acting on it are combined.
Net Force
A scientific law stating that at rest romain at rest, an objects in motion remain in motion with the same velocity, unless acted on by unbalanced force.
Newton’s first law
The resistance of an object to a change in the speed of the direction of its motion.
Inertia
A scientific law stating that the acceleration of an object increases with increased force and decrease with increased mass.
Newton’s second law
Any force that keeps an object moving in a circle.
Centripetal force
A scientific law stating that every time one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts a force that is equal in size and opposite in directions back on the first object
Newton’s third law
