Motion Flashcards
What is Distance
How far an object moves
What is Speed
The rate of change of distance
How do you calculate the average average speed, distance travelled and time taken?
Average speed = distance travelled / time taken
Distance travelled = average speed x time taken
Time taken = distance travelled / average speed
How do you calculate acceleration
Acceleration = change in velocity / time taken
What is acceleration measured in?
m/s^2
What is centripetal force?
Force, needed for circular motion, which acts towards the centre of a circle
What is deceleration?
Slowing down or negative accelation
Distance
Numerical description of how far apart two things are
What is the final velocity
The speed, in a particular direction, of a body after it accelerates
What is gradient
The change in the ‘y’ value divided by the change in the ‘x’ value
What is initial velocity
The speed, in a particular direction, of a body before it accelerates
What is rate of change?
The amount of change in the size of a quantity each second
What is resultant force
The single force that could replace all the forces acting on an object, found by adding these together
