Motion Flashcards
What is speed
A measure of how far something travels in a particular time.
How do you measure speed in science.
Metres per second (m/s)
What are car speeds measured in
Miles or kilometres per hour
How do you calculate speed
Speed(m/s)=distance travelled (m) Time taken (s)
Example: speed = 100m over 20seconds =5m/s
What would the line look like if you stopped moving on a distance time graph.
It would be completely flat/ horizontal
If you are slowly speeding up what is it called
Acceleration
How is gas pressure or air pressure produced
The collision between the air molecules and the balloon.
How is high gas pressure made
If there were lots of collisions in the balloon between the air molecule and the balloon then the gas pressure increases.
What happens if you cool down a gas and the object doesn’t change shape
The pressure goes down as there are less collisions
Why aren’t you crushed by air pressure
Because all the particles inside you pushing out cancel out the air pressure pushing in.
What is the pressure like at sea level.
The air pressure is higher and has higher density
What happens when you swim underwater
The water exerts a lot of pressure on you.
What are liquids
Liquids are incompressible
What does liquid pressure produce
Upthrust
How do you calculate pressure
Pressure (nmsquared)= force (n) over area (msquared)
