MOTION Flashcards
DISTANCE TIME GRAPHS
FASTER THE SPEED?
OJECT IS STATIONARY?
OBJECT IS AT A CONSTANT SPEED?
Steeper the gradient.
Horizontal.
Straight line sloping upwards.
FORMULA FOR DISTANCE TIME GRAPHS.
CALCULATING SPEED ON A DISTANCE TIME GRAPH.
Speed m/s = distance m / time s
Draw a triangle on graph - gradient = height / base
WHAT IS VELOCITY
A vector - it has direction as well as magnitude. If an object changes direction it changes velocity even if the speed stays the same.
WHAT IS ACCELERATION?
WHAT IS DECELERATION?
If the velocity changes.
Slowing down. Negative acceleration.
WHAT IS THE RESULTANT FORCE?
Resultant force is needed to make an object accelerate.
If resultant is 0 object is stationary or has a constant speed.
WHAT IS A VECTOR? EXAMPLES?
WHAT IS A SCALAR? EXAMPLES?
Vectors have direction and size. Velocity, acceleration, force, momentum, weight.
Scalars are not directional. Speed, distance, time, mass, energy.
WHAT IS THE STOPPING DISTANCE?
Distance vehicle travels between the driver noticing the hazard and the vehicle stopping.
EFFECTS ON THINKING DISTANCE
EFFECTS ON BRAKING DISTANCE
Tiredness, drugs/medicine, alcohol, mobile phone use.
condition of brakes, mass of car, tyre condition, road condition.
