Motion Flashcards
What is the object doing if it slopes upward at a straight line?
It is moving at a constant speed
How do you find the speed of an object? on a DTG
The gradient equals the speed
How do you find a speed in meters per second?
distance travelled in meters over time taken in seconds
What is velocity?
A speed in a given direction
What is acceleration?
The change of velocity per second the unit of acceleration is the meter per second squared
How do you find the acceleration?
Acceleration = change of velocity over time taken
What is the units of force?
Newtons (N)
What happens when 2 forces interact?
They exert equal and opposite forces on each other
What is a resultant force?
A single force that has the same effect as all the forces acting on an object
What happens if the resultant force on an object is zero?
The object stays at rest or constant velocity if it is not zero the object will change
How do you find the resultant force (N)
mass(kg) x acceleration(m/s(2))
What is the weight of an object
The force of gravity on it
What is the terminal velocity of a falling object?
The terminal velocity of a falling object is the velocity it reaches when it is falling in a fluid the weight is then equal to the drag force on the object
What is the extension of a spring?
The difference between the length of the spring and its original length
What is an object doing if it is represented as a horizontal on a distance time graph?
It is stationary
