Motion Flashcards
Any physical movement or change in position
Motion
When a body moves along a straight path, also called Rectilinear Motion
Motion in One Dimension
Is a body moves along a Curved Path, aka Curvilinear Motion
Motion in Two Dimensional
The position of body change, if a body moved in space (aka Random Motion)
Motion in Three Dimensional
The length of the path traversed by a body
Distance
The shortest distance from the initial to the final position of the body
Displacement
It is Scalar Quantity, only has the MAGNITUDE, depends on path, always positive
Distance
It is Vector Quantity, both magnitude AND direction, does not depend on the path, can be + or - depending on the direction
Displacement
Fights crime with both DIRECTION and MAGNITUDEEEE OHH YEAHHHHH
Vector
Have magnitude only, denoted by a number and unit
Scalar
The rate of change of distance with time, scalar quantity, represented by u and v
Speed
The distance travelled per second by the body in a specific direction, vector quantity, displacement / time, its S.I unit is m / s
Velocity
The rate of change of velocity with time, represented by the symbol “a” (vector quantity)
Acceleration
If velocity decreases with time, the acceleration is negative. This is the term for negative acceleration.
Retardation/Deceleration
The irregular motion of small particles in a liquid or gas
Random Motion
A circular movement of an object around a center of rotation
Rotational Motion
The motion in which all points of a moving body move uniformly in the same line
Translatory
Backwards and forwards in a circular arc
Oscillating motion
The object covers qual distances and equal intervals of time
Uniform motion
Object covers unequal distanced in equal intervals of time
Non-uniform Motion
When an object moves along a straight line with uniform acceleration, it is possible to relate its velocity, acceleration during motion and the distance covered by it in a certain time interval by a set of equations.
The Equation of Motion
When an object moves in a circular path with uniform acceleration
Uniform Circular Motion
