Motion Flashcards
What is Newton’s First Law?
Newton’s first law states that an object continues to be at rest or continues at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external and unbalanced force. This is also called the law of inertia.
What is Newton’s Second Law?
Newton’s Second Law states that the acceleration of a body experiencing an unbalanced force is directly proportional to the net force on the body and inversely proportional to the mass of the body F(net) =ma.
What is Newton’s Third Law?
Newton’s Third Law states that when one body exerts force on another body (an action force), the second force exerts an equal force on the first body but in the opposite direction. F(AB) =-F(BA)
Are forces in an action-reaction pair the same magnitude?
Yes
Are forces in an action reaction pair acting in the same direction?
No, they act in opposite directions.
Are forces in an action-reaction pair exerted on the same object?
No, they are exerted on two different objects.
