Motion Flashcards
what does a straight line on a velocity time graph mean?
moving at a constant velocity.
It has an acceleration of 0m/s2
what does a diagonal line with positive correlation mean on a velocity time graph?
it has a constant increase in
velocity. It is accelerating at a constant rate.
what does a diagonal line with negative correlation mean on a velocity time graph?
it has a constant decrease in
velocity. It is decelerating at a constant rate.
what does a straight line and then a diagonal line going down mean on a velocity time graph?
The object starts with a constant velocity
then begins to decelerate.
how do you find the total distance travelled on a velocity time graph?
work out the area b x h (for triangles: b x h /2) add all the areas together
what does a straight line mean on a distance time graph?
the distance not changing
over time so the object is not moving. the object is stationary
what does a diagonal line with positive correlation mean on a distance time graph?
shows distance is increasing
with time so the object is moving at a constant speed
what does a steep diagonal line with positive correlation mean on a distance time graph?
shows more distance is covered in the same time so
the object is moving more quickly
what does a curved line going upwards mean on a distance time graph?
shows the object is covering more distance for each time slot so it is accelerating
how do you calculate acceleration?
Acceleration (m/s2) = change in velocity (m/s)
Time taken for change (s)
what is the equations for acceleration?
a = v-u / t
v = final velocity
u = initial velocity
