Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Newtons first law
A
If a stationary object has a result force of zero it remains still, if a moving object has a resultant force of zero it carrys on moving at its current velocity
- if a resultant force acts on the object it will accelerate
(acceleration is change in velocity over time)
(so the velocity will chnge, and so the direction or speed of
the object will change, or both)
2
Q
Circular motion
A
a object moving in a circle, with constant speed, but direction always changing - so velocity is always changing - so it is accelerating
force:
(continue from above) there must also be a force which supplies this acceleration, this is centripetal force and is directed towards the centre of the circle
3
Q
intertial mass
A
measures how diffucult it is to change the velocity of an object
measured by mass = force/acceleration
4
Q
Newtons 3rd law
A
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction force
- collisions
- two marbles colliding, the force exerted by one marble on the other is the same as the force from the other
