Motion Flashcards
Motion in a Straight Line
average speed = distance travelled / time taken
Typical Speeds
walking speed - 1m/s
running - 3m/s
cycling - 6m/s
car - 13 to 30m/s
train - 50m/s
aeroplane - 250m/s
Distance-Time Graph
Straight Line shows that the object is stationary (not moving.)
Sloping Line shows that the object is moving.
The greater the gradient(the steepness of the slope), the faster the object is moving
Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity.
acceleration = change in velocity/ time taken
Velocity-Time Graph
A horizontal line shows that the object is moving at a constant velocity.
A sloped line shows that the object is accelerating.
Finding the Distance travelled in a Velocity-time Graph
Can be calculated by the area under a velocity-time graph.
Velocity, Acceleration and Distance
(final velocity)(squared) - (initial velocity)(squared) = 2 x acceleration x distance
