Visible Light is made up of what colours?
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet
Transmitted
meaning in properties of light
Light passes through transparent objects
Reflected
meaning in properties of light
Light Bounce off objects
Absorbed
meaning in properties of light
Objects take in the energy and convert it to heat energy
What is the Law of Reflection?
the angle of reflection equals the angle of incidence
Regular reflection meaning
Plane (flat) mirrors reflect light in a regular way (at the same angle). the reflected rays will also be parallel
Diffuse Reflection meaning
Most objects reflect irregularly because their surface is NOT perfectly smooth. Light is reflected in all directions. diffuse
Concave mirrors
- curve inwards (like a cave)
- Parallel light rays are reflected from the mirror and converge at a point where they cross. This is called the focal point (f)
Focal length meaning
the distance from a lens or mirror to the focal point ( F )
Concave mirrors are used in
torches, headlights, magnifying mirrors
Convex mirrors
- mirrors curve outwards (like a balloon)
- The light rays diverge (spread out)
- The focal point is behind the mirror.
