Electric Current
a movement of positive or negative electric particles (such as electrons) accompanied by such observable effects as the production of heat, of a magnetic field, or of chemical transformations
Alternating Current
an electric current that reverses its direction at regularly recurring intervals —> abbreviation AC
Direct Current
an electric current flowing in one direction only and substantially constant in value —> abbreviation DC
Electron
an elementary particle consisting of a charge of negative electricity equal to about 1.602 × 10^−19 coulomb and having a mass when at rest of about 9.109 × 10^−31 kilogram or about ¹/₁₈₃₆ that of a proton
Voltage
electric potential or potential difference expressed in volts
Resistance
the opposition offered by a body or substance to the passage through it of a steady electric current
Insulator
a material that is a poor conductor (as of electricity or heat)
Magnetic Field
the portion of space near a magnetic body or a current-carrying body in which the magnetic forces due to the body or current can be detected
Magnetic Pole
either of two small regions which are located respectively in the polar areas of the northern and southern hemispheres and toward which a compass needle points from any direction throughout adjacent regions
Ferromagnet
of or relating to substances with an abnormally high magnetic permeability, a definite saturation point, and appreciable residual magnetism and hysteresis
EMF
electromagnetic field
