What do generators do? What do motors do?
Generators: turn mehcanical movement into electrical signals
Motors: turn electrical signals to mechanical movement
What does a conductors moving in a magnetic field do?
Generate a current
What do transformers do?
Changes voltages from low to high or high to low
What is the difference between Fleming’s left and right hand rule?
Left = current
Right = induced current
What do the thumb, index finger and middle finger represent with Fleming’s left and right hand rules?
Thumb = thrust of motion
Index = field
Middle = current
What is frequency?
The number of cycles per second
What is a period (T) of a wave? What is the equation for this?
Time required to complete one cycle
T = 1 / f
What is the symbol for rotational frequency? What is its equation?
ω
ω = 2 x π x f
What is the phase of a wave?
Phase (Φ) is where the wave is in its cycle
What are the equations summing up Kirchoff’s current and voltage laws?
Current: ∑I = 0
Voltage: ∑E = ∑V
What do semiconductors do?
Partially conduct electricity
In what direction do diodes pass current? What about Zener diodes?
Diodes = 1 direction
Zener = Both directions, especially reverse
What is the difference between NPN and PNP resistors?
NPN = current flows away from emitter
PNP = current flows towards emitter
What type of junction does a diode have?
PN junction
In what direction do single PN junctions and diode bridges conduct in?
Single PN junctions: 1 direction
Diode brudges: both directions
