Mooring Line:
Used to moor to piers, wharfs, quay walls, and nested with other ships
Breast Line:
led nearly straight across to the pier, controlling the distance of the ship from the pier
Aft Spring Line:
Keep the ship from moving forward
Forward Spring Line:
Keep the ship from going aft

Tattletale:
Smaller line attached to the mooring to warning that there is danger of exceeding the SWL of the line
Figure Eight Turn:
Method to secure lines to bitt or cleats
Dip the eye:
To arrange the eyes of mooring lines on bitts or bollards so one line dips into the eye of the other so that either line may be removed without disturbing the other
Single up:
Take in all bights and extra lines so there remains only a single part of each of the normal mooring lines.
Double Up:
Run additional lines, or bights of lines, as needed to make the mooring secure
Rat Guard:
Circular metal disks intended to prevent rats from boarding ships by way of the mooring Lines
