Q

What are the 3 main principles?

A
  1. There are real objective moral truths that are independent of human beings.
  2. These are fundamental truths that can’t be broken down into parts OR defined by reference to anything except moral truths
  3. Human beings can discover these truths by using their minds in a particular intuitive way

Q

How does intuitionism work within Ross’s criticism?

A

Ross claimed that the obvious duties humans have can sometimes conflict with each other and it isn’t always obvious which should be prioritised - intuitionism is used to help people choose between these conflicting duties.

Q

Explain what the 7 prima facie duties are with 2 examples.

A

The duties have moral weight and are absolute if they don’t conflict each other, if they do conflict, none of the prima facie duties will have priority.
E.G. Reparation - making amends for wrongful actions.
Fidelity - keeping promises
