The moon travels around the earth on its orbit every 28 days
Waxing
The amount of light increasing on the moon from the right (darkness decreasing)
Waning
The amount of sunlight decreasing darkness increasing
Orbit
The path the moon travels in
Crescent
Phases of the moon where there is more light than first and third quarter moon
Gibbous
Phases of the moon where there is more light than the 1 and 3 quarter moons
Full moon
The entire lit side of the moon is facing us
New moon
The entire shaded/ dark side of the moon facing us
First quarter moon
The right side is lit up the moon is one quarter of the way through its orbit around the sun
Third quarter
The left side is lit. The moon is three quarters away from its full trip around the earth.
