melancholia
A
- may be seen in some ppl with depression:
- finding no pleasure in any activity (anhedonia) and being unable to feel better even temporarily when something good happens
- depressed mood is worse in the morning
- awakening ~2hrs too early, losing appetite/wt, and being either lethargic or extremely agitated

cyclothymic disoder
A
-frequent periods of depressed mood and hypomania which may be mixed with, alternate with, or be separated by periods of normal mood lasting as long as 2 months

postpartum depression
A
- of women with PD, half had been depressed during the pregnancy and PD was simply a continuation, while the other half only saw onset after birth
- onset was predicted by lvls of depression during pregnancy and reported lack of warmth/care from one’s own parent’s while growing up
- one study found peer support decreased PD, but another found this backfired; researchers conclude that interventions are best delivered by trained nurses

- created in early childhood due to an oral fixation if their needs are insufficiently or over-sufficiently gratified
- the person may develop a tendency to be excessively dependent on other ppl for the maintenance of self-esteem
