unusually sad, gloomy and dejected mood or
-markedly diminished interest qnd pleasure in everyday activities
Depression
unusually and persistently elevated, expansive, or irrable mood that is distinctly different from others
Mania
Less severe variant of mania
no hospitalization need
Hypomania
Similar to the two criteria sets we used to determine if a client met criteria for Panick attack or agoraphobia
Mood episodes
4 types of Mood episodes
*Major Depressive Disorders
*Manic Disorders
*Mixed Disorders
*Hypomanic Disorders
At least 2 weeks client feels depressed or cannot enjoy life
Major Depressive Disorders
*problem with eating and sleeping
*lost energy
*trouble concentrating and
*thoughts about death
At least 1 week the clients feels:
*Elevated(or sometime irritable
*May be grandiose, talkative, hyperactive, and distractible
client has full filled the symptomatic criteria for both a manic and major Depressive episode
Mixed Episode
Is much like a manic episodes
Briefer and less severe
Hypomanic episodes
Is a pattern of illness due to an abnormal mood
nearly every client with a mood disorder experience depression at some time
Mood disorders
Client has no manic or hypomanic episodes
But had one or more majore depressive episodes
Depressive Disorders
Not severe enough to be call a major Depressive episode
Dsythymic Disorders
Client has depressive symptoms, that do not need meet criteria has depressive or any other diagnosis
Deprressive Disorders
Approximately 25% od mood disorder clients experience manic or hypomanic episodes
Bipolar Disorder
Must have at least 1 manic episodes
Bipolar 1 Disorder
at least 1 Hypomanic episodes
Bipolar II Disorders
Repeated mood swings, but non severe enough to be called majore depressive disorders
Cyclothymic Disorders
Client has bipolar symptoms that do not meet the criteria for the bipolar diagnosis above
Bipolar Disorders (NOS)
mood disorders due to a general medical condition
Other mood disorders
Two sets of description can be applied to a number of the moof episodes and mood disorders
