Extremely depressed mood state that lasts 2+ weeks and includes cognitive symptoms and disturbed physical functions
 Feelings of worthlessness, indecisiveness
 Altered sleep patterns
 Changing appetite and weight
 Notable loss of energy
 General loss of interest
 Anhedonia: inability to experience
pleasure
 Behavioural and emotional shutdown

extreme pleasure in every activity for 1+ week
(or less if hospitalization required)
 Hyperactivity, rapid speech
 Flight of ideas
 Person may require hospitalization

days
 No marked impairment in social or occupational functioning
