The Old Testament monotheism
-In OT good moral behaviour is at the heart of the covenant agreement between Israel and God.
-God ‘adopts’ Israel in special relationship and in return Israel promises moral and religious obedience (Exodus 19:5-6)
-Law given to Moses is the ‘text of that agreement, and is centred on the 10 commandments.
New Testament
-J tells his followers that whoever weakens in obeying these commandments, or who teaches others to weaken, shall be called least in kingdom of heaven (Matthew)
-many christians believe they are bound by same moral laws. other don’t.
‘salvation history’
-moral obedience is at the heart of salvation
-the appearance in the world of Jesus as Gods son is part of ‘salvation history’.
-ethical teachings of Jesus shows how Christians can be saved into Kingdom of God. God has complete power, authority and love to save humanity from its sins.
