Q

What is ionic bonding?

A

Ions with opposite charges attract. This electrostatic force is an ionic bond. These are weaker than covalent bonds

Q

What is a polymer?

A

Monomers can be linked together to form long chains of polymers. They are formed by polymerisation. The monomers are usually carbon based.

Q

What is hydrogen bonding?

A

Electrons in a molecule aren’t very evenly distributed but spend more time in one position. This region is more negatively charged

Q

What is a polar molecule?

A

A molecule with an uneven distribution of charge is polarised or is a polar molecule. The negative region of one forms a weak electrostatic bond with the positive region of another as opposites attract. Collectively they form important forces that alter physical properties of molecules (especially for water)
